Workshops

Most decisions about how our cities look happen in meeting rooms, not design studios. That's why we bring the conversation about beauty, human-scale design, and evidence-based aesthetics directly to your team.

Our workshops are built around one idea: the people shaping housing and urban development deserve access to the research and principles that make places people actually love. No jargon, no abstract theory. Practical frameworks your team can apply the next morning.

  • Every workshop is tailored to your organization's context, whether you're planning a new neighbourhood, renovating existing stock, or rethinking your design guidelines.

We combine neuroscience research on how people experience buildings, public preference data from large-scale surveys, and real-world case studies of places that got it right.

  • Every workshop can take one of two directions. The holistic format covers the full picture: what makes places beautiful, why people prefer certain environments, and how to apply these insights to real projects. Alternatively, we can go deep on a single topic tailored to your team's priorities:

    • Biophilic design

    • Creating livable streets

    • Gentle density

    • Walkability

    • Using Generative AI to create design alternatives

Not sure which fits? We'll figure it out together in a short intake call.

  • Participants walk away with a shared vocabulary for talking about design quality, concrete criteria they can use in briefs and tenders, and the confidence to ask for better from architects and designers.

Formats

  • 3-4 hours. Ideal for teams that want a focused introduction to evidence-based aesthetics and how it applies to their portfolio. Includes a presentation, case study analysis, and an interactive session applying principles to your own projects.

  • 6-7 hours. For organizations ready to go deeper. The morning builds the framework: what the research tells us about beauty, preference, and wellbeing in the built environment. The afternoon is hands-on: we apply these principles directly to your current plans, developments, or design guidelines.

Who this is for

We work with housing cooperations looking to raise the aesthetic quality of their developments, municipalities developing design codes or area visions, and development teams who want to differentiate their projects through design that people genuinely prefer.
